67th Festival of Male Voice Praise

67th Festival of Male Voice Praise

We are pleased to again be at St Michael’s, Stoke Gifford for our 67th Annual Festival of Male Voice Praise, our fourth at St Michael’s.

We are extremely grateful to the Ministers, Trustees and all those people at St Michael’s who help us on the day of our Festival for allowing to continue using the excellent facilities that are available.

The balcony is now open which greatly increases the capacity of the congregation/audience and we look forward to filling the church once again with an evening of praise and worship in true FMVP style.

Our admission charge has been kept at £10 for all seats which are unreserved. An area can be set aside for those people who require the use of wheelchairs.

Please see our festivals page on this site for full details of our Festival.

Alan Thorpe

Our guest speaker and chairman this evening is Alan Thorpe who lives in Nailsea and who is a good friend of the Bristol Evangel Male Voice Choir being a regular speaker for them on engagements. He is very well known in and around the Bristol Area. Born in South Yorkshire, Alan was converted as a teenager and immediately felt the call of God into ministry.  After theological training, Alan served in two Pastorates, firstly in Eastleigh, Southampton and then in Appledore, North Devon. In 1982 he accepted the new post of Railway Mission Chaplain for GWR based in Bristol and continues to serve in retirement. He is married to Jackie and they have two grown-up sons.

Emmaus Christian Choir

We are most grateful to this local Evangelical choir for accepting at very short notice our invitation to be our musical guests this evening. Our planned soloist had to back out at the last minute and we had no hesitation in asking The Emmaus to fill the gap to which they readily agreed. This choir has been in existence for many years, formerly being known as The Frome Valley Christian Choir, changing their name in January 2005 following the retirement of their founder Musical Director, Michael Parry

The choir is now ably led by Liz Morgan, the Head Teacher of Gracefield Christian School in Downend. It has a varying repertoire of Christian music including arrangements of modern-day worship songs. Coincidentally their Chairperson is Jackie Thorpe, the wife of Alan our guest speaker. Their accompanist is Helen Murray.

The Choir

The constituent choirs of the Bristol & West of England Festivals of Male Voice Praise, namely the Bridgwater Gospel Singers, the Bristol Evangel Male Voice Choir and the Cheltenham & District Male Voice Praise are joined by visiting choirmen from other FMVP areas including Swansea, Exeter, Torquay, Saltash, Poole, St Ives, Purley and other locations from the Greater London Area this year we are expecting a small contingent of men from Bolton, Harrogate and Chesterfield.  We welcome these men and very much appreciate the support they are giving us. All choirmen travel considerable distances at their own expense to other Festivals like this around the country throughout the year.
