The Cheltenham and District Male Voice Praise Choir started as a male voice quartet in 1957 consisting of members of Cambray Baptist Church. It subsequently expanded two years later into a large Gospel Male Voice Choir under the leadership of the church organist, Gordon Wynn becoming affiliate to the Festivals of Male Voice Praise through the Bristol Area.
Gordon Wynn retired in 2002 when the deputy conductor Tudor Griffiths became its Leader and who remains in that position today. Our eldest member is Terry Pearce who will shortly reach 100 years and intends to keep singing with us as long as he is able.
The choir currently has around 20 members are available to undertake engagements wherever invited – please see the “contacts page” for the details of our Secretary and Choir leader.
We are always looking for new members so if you are a Christian with a singing voice (we are not asking for opera stars!) then why not join us. The ability to read music is not a requirement as all instruction and help will be given, we merely ask that you are able to sing in tune. There is no formal audition. There is a weekly commitment to attend practice and to attend our engagements as arranged. We meet for practice at Cambray Baptist Church, Cheltenham on Monday evenings commencing at 7:30 except for eight rehearsals each year which are held at Matson Baptist Church. Please feel free to turn up and make yourself known.
